LOTR gets a recycling-focused makeover

If you need a Monday pick-me-up, this is it: A parody of “The Lord of the Rings” that swaps out a “plastic, type one bottle to rule them all” for the original golden ring. It’s “Lord of Recycling.”

From the egg carton used as body armor in a battle scene to the computer-animated Gollum, it’s a silly video about the same length as a movie trailer. It’s also, frankly, well done. I know the basic LOTR story, but I’ve never sat down to watch all (three?) of the movies, so I might have missed a few of the more clever jokes — but I still loved it. If you have a few minutes to spare, take a break from the hustle and bustle of Monday and check it out.

For tips on recycling in York County, check out the York County Solid Waste Authority’s website for recycling. You’ll find tips on everything from recycling your basic glass bottle to your Christmas tree. I was also surprised to find tips on composting, which is a great way to “recycle” your food scraps.

Check out these other links on recycling specific items.
Wine corks
Plastics (toys, VHS tapes, etc.)
Clothes (even ones with holes and stains)
Packing peanuts

Of course, recycling is the last “R” in “reduce, reuse, recycle.” So keep in mind, you have other options to minimize your trash pile too.
