I am a procrastinator. I can buckle down and work when I need to, but I tend to put things off until they become pressing needs. I am particularly good at this with haircuts, Christmas shopping and housecleaning.
Oh, and decorating for the holidays. I’ve mentioned on the countdown that my “decorations” are less than elegant, especially when compared to other homes. I’ve also noted in passing that my tree is a bit lopsided.
My great intentions of a decoration intervention have not been realized as of yet, but I’m holding out hope — after all, I still have two weeks till Christmas, right? In procrastinator measurements, that’s almost an eternity.
In the meantime, I’ll continue to admire the decorating work of others. The New Oxford Holiday House Tour runs noon to 5 p.m. today, so you can take a peek into what a well-decorated home would look like for the holidays, even if yours is hum-ho. Tickets are $18; call 624-2800. A list of the tour locations can be found at www.newoxford.org.
Smart is showcasing something different each day of the holiday season. Some days it will be an event, such as a play or craft bazaar. Other days it will be a recipe you can serve during Christmas dinner or a suggestion for entertaining the kids. We’ll give tips to survive the holidays — all 61 days of them.
