This winter has been a strange one, with fluctuating temperatures having me carrying around a coat — just in case in decides to be winter again.
Now that we are inching toward February and temperatures should drop and stay low, it’s time to invest in a great winter coat!
As I expressed in a previous post about the importance of avoiding wool, there are many animal friendly options for outerwear that won’t break the bank and is still stylish.
For a great coat at a decent price, first check out Alternative Outfitters and ModCloth. Alternative Outfitters is an exclusive vegan online boutique that sells not just coats, but shoes, accessories and a lot of other items. A military style coat that I was eying up is originally $68, but now is half off for $34!
As for ModCloth, a little more searching is needed to find vegan choices. The shop isn’t exclusively vegan, but is great about listing the materials with the description. They also have a warmth scale for each coat! ModCloth can get a bit pricey, but there are some great finds for a good price. Need something to keep you warm on the slopes? Try the Plum to the Mountains jacket for $41.99.
Are you looking to invest in a great jacket and don’t mind spending a bit of money for a durable piece? Try Vaute Couture. When designer Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart came onto the scene, she made quite an impact on the vegan world! Not only are her jackets very fashion forward, but the advanced new materials she uses are designed for winter protection, insulation and comfort. Some of the fabric are 100%
recyclable and she is currently researching a down alternative. The work is fair trade. Whereas the coats are in the $400 range, watch out for some sales that go on throughout the season for previous collections.
Real fur is out of style! If you want a nice, warm coat, go with faux fur! You will pay a bundle, anywhere from $150 to close to $1,000 but it’s worth it if it’s your desire. Here are two great faux fur vegan shops: Faux and Genuine Fake.
Stay warm out there!
