Adult sports leagues are a blast from the past

Thursdays are the one night a week when I get to be a kid again.

I lace up my tennis shoes, put on a bright yellow T-shirt and run the bases in an adult kickball league.

We’re not great — Pitch, Please has a record of 4-2 — but it’s been a fun way to meet new friends and burn a few calories.

Our season isn’t even over yet and we’re already trying to figure out where we’ll get our next rec sport fix (right now York’s Downtown Kickball Tournament is looking like a team favorite).

Adult sports aren’t for everyone, but when you find the right league, it can be a can be a blast from the past.

Emily Opilo covered the annual Day of Play yesterday in York, where Bring on Play and SecureCorps volunteers set up four square games in Continental Square.

She said it brought back memories of the last time she played the game — in a very crowded Hersheypark parking lot.

If you’re interested in joining an adult sports league, here are some local options:

  1. York Sports and Social Club
  2. City of York
  3. Harrisburg Young Professionals
  4. Carlisle Young Professionals
