Teach a child to love reading and visiting the library at a young age and they’ll be hooked for life. That’s the idea, anyhow, behind York County Libraries’ and PeoplesBank’s Grade One At the Library (GOAL) program, which kicked off in September. Youth services librarians visited local elementary schools and provided applications for library cards, aiming to put a library card in the hands of every first-grader in the county.

The program culminates in a celebration from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Nov. 10 at the West Manchester Mall in York. Author and illustration Will Hillenbrand, storyteller Beth Rebert and Changing Faces 4 Fun will all be part of the event, which is free and open to the public.
