Golden Globes style: Celebrities show us how and how not to look younger

A transformation took place on the red carpet Sunday for the Golden Globes. Some celebrities completely changed their looks for the evening, from hair to makeup to dress. And, some of those stars showed us a younger-looking side of them; while others, might have sat in front of their makeup artist for too long — or chose a dress that wasn’t quite right.

Lessons: Dark lipstick and severe hair can make you look older than you actually are. Fitted gowns are usually better than blousy ones. And, color matters.

Actress Kerry Washington, 35-years-old, showed us how to look young and sexy when she posed for the camera Sunday. She blossomed out of her mature, plum makeup to reveal a younger look — one with straight-across bangs and flattering layers. She looked youthful, healthy and not too uptight. She also made the top of many best-dressed lists across the entertainment industry.

Actress Jessica Chastain’s gown had an extremely low-cut plunge that was almost bloused — which made it look like, well, she was a little saggy. Also, her hair was swept back in an old-Hollywood fashion that was so severe, it almost looked like she just came out of the pool. The pale color of the gown didn’t do much for her fair skin, too. I would have preferred a more vibrant blue to accent her lovely red locks, which would have been great styled more naturally.

The plunging neckline isn’t working here, because the material is drooping at the waistline. It makes Jessica Chastain, who has a gorgeous figure, look like she has saggy boobs. (Photo by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP)

The sexy bombshell we know and love from “The Big Bang Theory” layered on a little too much dark makeup at the Golden Globes. Her lipstick was such a deep red, I thought it gave her a vampire-like appearance. Also, her dress was a little odd — muted color, prom sparkle and an unnecessary pink sash at the waist. As for the shoulder detail, some transparent materials can be really beautiful, but this one looked more like panty hose. She’s a beautiful 27-year-old! She is more stunning than this look makes her out to be! I prefer the sheer detail of the dress she wore earlier this month to the Nokia Theatre. Plus, her lighter makeup in that look made her glow, the way she should.

Yikes! Instead of showing off her beautiful, fresh face, Kaley Cuoco’s makeup makes her look like a blood-sucking vampire. (Photo by Matt Sayles/Invision/AP)

Pink cheeks and a light pink gloss keeps this Kaley Cuoco look cute, and fresh. She looks vibrant and more her age here — and this was taken just a few days before the Golden Globes. (Photo by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP)
