Grammys 2013: Taylor Swift, Rihanna and red-carpet trends

Taylor Swift did it. She broke out of her fashion shell. She showed up to the Grammys wearing an architectural, Grecian gown by J. Mendel. She was showing more skin than usual, but did it in a tasteful way.

Rihanna also made the list of best-dressed celebrities of the night. She revealed the right way to wear red on the red carpet — with a sheer red chiffon Azzedine Alaia gown. The floor-length dress fit her perfectly, and she looked comfortable wearing it. It was definitely a glamorous and fierce style choice, but it could have used a few more layers up top.

Trend alert: The style was all about violating the much talked about “dress code.” How? The side-split gown.

Who did it? Florence Welch, Jennifer Lopez, Miranda Lambert and even Taylor Swift.

The slit is fine — just please understand that less is more. If your gown is shooting too high, it looks a little ridiculous — we get it, you have a nice leg.
