My local summer activity is going to the dirt track, smelling the alcohol (fuel for the cars) , hearing the engines roar, feeling the dirt in my hair and face. Watching the excitement on the winners face. I work at a dirt track on Friday and Saturday nights in the summer months. So yes, this is what I like to do in the summer.

We usually don’t buy ice cream cones or freeze pops till once the weather heats up. Kind of a treat that we save for only a portion of the year. Sure ice cream can be eatten from a bowl all year but cones are the best. Cooling off while it drips down my kids chins on a hot summer day is priceless.

Without a doubt, what screams summer to me is the parade sponsored by the Eureka Fire Company in Stewartstown. Early in the day, residents post lawn chairs and blankets along Main Street to claim their spot on the parade route. During the parade, children collect the candy thrown from the parade participants while adults catch up with neighbors and friends. With Kennard-Dale High School’s marching band, fire engines from all across the area and creative floats from local organizations, the parade truly represents summer in a small town in York County, PA!
