The right pop of color or shine on your lips can create a more polished look.
Sometimes, all that’s needed is a moisturizing balm that keeps lips from chapping. Other times, ladies want a more work-appropriate or even glamorous lip.
But, lip color can be intimidating — we aren’t sure what shade will look best, if it will end up gone or on our teeth at the end of the day, or if it will cake or smudge. Gloss can be tricky, too — especially because we don’t want to get stuck buying one that is too sticky.
Our fashion pros tell us about their favorite products:
Miss Peanutty: Tomorrow is one of those days that you wait for, not because its a holiday or because I have the day off, but because its free gift time for Lancôme at the Carlisle’s Bon-Ton. I have already reserved my gift with a pre-order and I’m anticipating picking up all my new prizes!
I used to be a Lancôme salesperson/makeup artist. I worked for the company while in graduate school. When I was growing up, my mother always used their products. As I started to appreciate cosmetics more, so did I. Beyond quality, I also appreciate that they don’t test on animals. So here I am about eight years post-Lancôme employment and I am still raving about their products. Clearly, I am very brand loyal.
As soon as I saw the Beauty Panel question about our favorite lip gloss, I knew I’d be singing the praises of Lancôme’s Juicy Tube. I have a million of these in a host of different colors and sizes. I’ve been buying and receiving them as gifts over the past ten years. This is the Cadillac of lip gloss. It goes on smooth, looks shiny and thick, and tastes/smells delightful! I use Juicy Tubes daily as my day wear lip color and I also apply it over lipstick when I want a less flat look. However I am warning you, these little tubes of shiny lusciousness are highly addictive. Purchase one at your own risk!
Alexandria Keener: Most of the time I find myself reaching for my Burt’s Bees lip balm. They come in different shades from clear to a dark red. I usually go with the clear and just add a bit of shine to my lips. I’m not a fan of the stickiness that regular glosses leave, and I don’t use lipstick.
Caroline Morris: I am probably the fuddiest here! I love my Clinique lipstick. Being the oldest of this fashionista group and tending toward dry skin, the cream base in the lipstick is fabulous. I also have very sensitive skin and have to be careful about what I put on it; I know Clinique has done the work of testing it for sensitivities! Depending upon the time of year, I switch it up. Year round I always go to Sweet Honey. Other times of the year, anything with “berry” in it usually works well for me.
Clinique has fabulous gift with purchase options so I do try to time my purchases for the giveaway time.
Melissa Stiles: Right now my favorite lipstick for the fall is RiRi.
The lipstick is great by itself for a matte look, but to give it shine, I often layer lipgloss over it. I use Lustreglass in Flashmode by MAC, $15, for high shine.
Patricia Solis: One of my favorite lipstick brands is YSL. They retail for $34 dollars but the color is amazing and they last quite a while.
You can find them at Sephora.
My favorite color is Cranberry Red.
