York County Libraries focuses on a goal each September — to put a library card in the hands of every first-grade student in York County.

The Grade One At the Library (GOAL) program kicked off in September with teachers encouraging kids to sign up through their classrooms. On Nov. 16, the GOAL celebration will be held at Penn State York with children’s author and illustrator Will Hillenbrand. Hillenbrand and local storyteller Beth Rebert will tell tales, with Skeeta the Clown offering face-painting, as well.

“Grade one is when the kids are first beginning to read, and the library helps to connect and reinforce what they are learning at school and home,” said Deb Sullivan, community relations director for the York County Library System.
