The Susquehanna Ale Trail will soon kick off its third annual Passport Event.

Nine breweries and brewpubs across central Pennsylvania will open their doors April 4-6 and April 11-13 to craft beer enthusiasts for the Susquehanna Ale Trail’s signature event.

New this year is the addition of Gunpowder Falls Brewing, which brews authentic German-style lagers, according to a press release from the York County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Returning for 2014 are Bube’s Brewery, Lancaster Brewing Company, Liquid Hero Brewery, Mudhook Brewing Company, Rumspringa Brewing Company, Swashbuckler Brewing Company, Tröegs Brewing Company and Warehouse Gourmet Bistro & Brew Pub.

Passports, which are $15, include at least three beer tastings at each location, light appetizers, tours, a souvenir mug and 10-percent discount at participating breweries and brewpubs, the release states. Passports can be purchased at participating breweries.

The York County Convention & Visitors Bureau said it has also created a regionalized sample itineraries with activities in between stops on the Susquehanna Ale Trail during the Passport Event. Lodging packages are also available.

I’m a lover of porters and stouts and of coffee. So, Troeg’s Java Head Stout covers all of the bases for me. It is a great stout and with infused coffee, it would go great with a doughnut.
